Media Inquiries
Print, broadcast and electronic media representatives are encouraged to contact NRL-SSC Public Affairs to coordinate interviews with NRL-SSC scientists. Scientists are encouraged to share their personal knowledge about their published research. All media inquiries must be approved by Public Affairs and the NRL Director of Research.

Event Speakers and Tours
NRL-SSC is always willing to share the laboratory's history, mission and research with the public. If you would like to arrange an NRL scientist to speak to your company, class or club, please contact NRL-SSC Public Affairs.

Tours for small groups with a special interest in the laboratory's abilities can be arranged. However, because NRL-SSC is an active, working laboratory, tours must be coordinated in advance and cannot impact research operations.

Combined Federal Campaign
NRL-SSC employees actively participate in the federal government's Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) by routinely donating through the annual CFC drive, exceeding the detachment's goal each year.

NRL-SSC also serves on the Local Federal Coordinating Committee for the Greater Mississippi CFC, which is responsible for implementing the CFC in over 35 Mississippi counties, and rotates leadership of the Greater Mississippi CFC drive with other agencies along the Gulf Coast.

The detachment also rotates leading the annual SSC-wide CFC drive with other SSC organizations, such as NASA, Special Boat Team Twenty-Two, the Naval Oceanographic Office and the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command.

Special Olympics
NRL-SSC employees played a vital role in the establishment of the Area III Special Olympics Field Games and have continued to support the games at SSC for more than 30 years. Each spring (late March/early April), hundreds of SSC employees and others in the community volunteer a Saturday to cheer on Special Olympians, serve as game officials and provide logistical support to the state qualifying event.

Leading up to the event, NRL-SSC employees also support local fundraiser lunches for the games and individually sponsor athletes. The detachment also rotates leading coordination of the overall Special Olympics Field Games with the other major agencies on site.
